ok, i posted this on the old site, but it has since been deleted.. luckily i've saved all the progress on it, and am reposting here:
--------Kitzu's WHM Guide--------
Ok, WHMs, this is only a guide.. and its not complete, so don’t bite my head off if you disagree or have another strategy that you personally find more fulfilling to your job. If you would like to add any more information, or anything I have written isn’t entirely accurate, feel free to send a message and I will update this as needed, or new information becomes available. This guide does not cover all mobs, just the mobs killed on a regular basis, and was written in about 30 minutes so I have a lot to add later.
--------Hate Management--------
Enmity- is your best friend for most situations, and all should have a decent setup, which should be easily attainable via AF/Crow/Errant/Blessed sets, and a few other random pieces of gear.
** on top of having the enmity- set, it is also important to have some kind of body gear with auto-refresh to help your MP pool, a few options available to WHM are: Nobles Tunic, Clerics Briault, Dalmatica, Vermillion Cloak, and Ixion Cloak.
CureIII and CureV only. CureIV is a nice cure for the MP cost, but it gives a lot more hate and a dead whm is a useless whm. Also, if a PLD is tanking, they may ask you to not cure them unless they get a certain % HP, giving an opportunity to cure themselves to maintain hate.
Because you will often be in range of AOE moves, or running in to cast a bar- spell on tanks, it is important that you keep up Stoneskin at all times.
Also, when watching for a TP move, you can start casting on your tank as the move is being readied, in preparation for the hit. That way, the tank is cured or has the status removed as soon as it lands.
--------Subjobs--------
/SCH- is really good for Light Arts, which allows fast cast of white magic, as well as less MP cost, and also has Sublimation and conserve MP, which can save your ass if youre running out of MP, though a few of you may prefer the RDM refresh you for a constantly stable MP pool.
/BLM- is my personal favorite, for conserve MP, the ability to tractor dead to a safe Raising range, and saves the trouble of buying a warp club in the event the BLM forget you exist.
/SMN- useful for auto-refresh, a larger MP pool than all the other subs, and garuda’s Aerial Armor during the few times our PLD wont be /nin.
/THF- gtfo Anna, though this sub is used during Attest Runs in Dyna-Beaucedine, though personally I’d go /anon if the WHM/THF combo was to ever be done.
--------Linkshell Events--------
Dynamis:
Keeping your party alive is your #1 priority. Hate isn’t usually an Issue in dynamis because the mobs fall so fast, unless youre fighting an NM.
Watch for mobs. Keep Barfira ready in case your lag eases up and you suddenly realize that your pt is fighting a NIN. And while youre holding Barfira ready, try to not forget the simple Protectra and Shellra you’ve been doing in every exp pt you’ve ever joined.
Make macro’s that use party chat for Raises. Raise3>Raise2>Raise1 in that order, and cycle it if able after a wipe. In the event that youre weakened, cast haste on yourself before Raising if MP allows.
Einherjar:
Just keep everyone alive and buffed. Make sure you have a Repose macro and light staff in the event BRDs aren’t able to sleep. If fighting skeles, it may also be a good idea to have a banish macro to lower their DEF. Mobs usually die fast here, so if MP is an issue its ok to use Cure4 to better manage MP.
--------Kings--------
When it comes to Kings, WHM probably have the easiest time, only needed macro’s are CureIII and CureV, Haste, and your Protectra/Shellra.
It is very important that you keep track of windows, and buff the entire party you are in with your highest tier Protectra/Shellra around 10 minutes before the mob can actually pop, this not only allows you time to rest, but the high-pitched clicky noises made by your casting might make any tanks that are off screen realize that windows are near, though <call> should only be used if a mob pops and people are still afk, because that hurts the ears of anyone playing while wearing headphones. (*** if you use <call>, be prepared to face the wrath of Chisame)
For Aspidochelone and King Behemoth, the strategy is pretty much the same, just keep your tanks cured and buffed. These 2 kings are generally kited or fought in a large area, so stay within curing range of your party while everyone is running around.
For Nidhogg, stand on the foot that your BRD is spamming Ballads on, and keep everyone cured, as well as making sure the tanks have Baraera for when he uses "Hurricane Wing".
--------Tiamat--------
This is a tough fight for any WHM, as you need to pay constant 100% attention. You will be required to run in keep Barfira on the tanks at all times, keep the tanks HP filled, and possibly keep a haste cycle if MP permits. Usually there will be a 2nd WHM in the tank party though.
You will need to watch for 2 TP moves in particular, “Horrid Roar” and “Tebbad Wing”.
“Horrid Roar” dispels all buffs and resets enmity, so you will need to put Barfira, Protect, and Shell back on the tanks as soon as possible, as well as equipping a full enmity- set during this fight.
“Tebbad Wing” deals damage and afflicts the tank with Plague, so you will need to keep a Viruna macro ready. When Tiamat is in the air and uses "Tebbad Wing" it usually doesnt land on the tanks because they use equip sets with fire resist. For that situation you may wait to cast Viruna until a tank tells you, or if you notice them taking a large amount of damage.
Whenever Tiamat lands from flight, if our BLMs aren’t fast enough, it may use “Mighty Strikes”. The tank can die really fast when this is on, so be sure to spam CureV whether its needed or not as soon as you see the tank taking any damage at all, until the tank is able to recover shadows.
--------Cerberus--------
Giant Doggy with 3 Heads! Kinda freaky..
Keep an enmity- set on at all times, with the exception of your refresh body, and watch hate closely cause you can get drawn in and 1 shotted, though you will need to run in occasionally to Barfira the tanks in preparation for "Lava Spit"
Keep standard macros, as well as a Paralyna, which you need to cast on the tank and any applicable people in your party as soon as you see the move “Ululation”
In the event that the move “Gates of Hades” manages to get through stun, be ready to run in and Benediction. Usually the damage is well handled by our tanks though, so you may only need to Erase and Cure your tank back to recover.
***You may be required to ES-Slow if you are /BLM.
--------Khimaira--------
This is one of those mobs that you should /BLM no regard to any other subs you may have, as you will need to take part in a ES-Slow cycle. You will need to keep a Paralyna and Stona macro ready, as well as your usual palette.
For this, there will generally be 2 WHM in the tank party, each of which should cover 1 tank, and communication with the other WHM is important so that both tanks are buffed and cured appropriately.
“Fossilizing Breath” as the name implies, petrifies whoever it hits, so as soon as you see this it is important to spam your stona macro on your tank.
“Dreadstorm” and “Thunderstrike” have no added effects that you will need to erase, so when you see these the only needed action will be CureV on your tank. (though you should keep Barthundra up for Thunderstrike). You should start casting on your tank when you see Khimaira readying the move, so that the tank gets cured as soon as it takes the hit.
Usually we manage to break the wings, but while wings are up, Khimaira has the chance to use “Tourbillion”, which has a strong AOE damage and knockback effect, as well as a heavy Def Down. It is important to erase your tank quickly to ensure they don’t die.
After its hp is 35% or lower, it can “Fulmination”, which does AOE paralyze and massive damage to everyone it hits. Generally you will be out of range so its safe to CureV your tank and paralyna asap, but in the event you get hit by it you NEED to run in and Benediction or it can get ugly fast.
--------Dark Ixion--------
Easy enough mob for a WHM, and generally you’ll have 2 WHM in the tank pt, though only 1 tank will be on DI at any given time. Communication is important here, and the 2 WHM should work together to decide who Cures, and who Erases the tank when hit by a TP move.
Generally, though only 2 WHM will be in the tank party, there are a few spare WHM stuck out of party waiting for an invite when a current WHM runs out of MP or dies. If you aren’t in a party, you should be spamming Raise on the falling DD, and curing the weakened people also out of party.
This mob is fought in a tiered area, so that tanks can get hit with AOE moves while staying within range for cures, without the mages getting hit, so that being said its safe to cast ProtectIV and ShellIV from a distance, rather than running in and risk being killed by a stray AOE move.
“Rampant Stance” is a simple AOE damage move, and as such only a quick CureV is needed after the attack.
“Wrath of Zeus” is an AOE move that silences and does damage, so when you see this it is important that 1 WHM cures the tank, and the other silena asap.
*** Dark Ixion has added effect of Bind or Gravity upon landing a hit, so when you see a tank taking damage be sure to use Erase as needed.
